The P.O.E.T. – What You Need to Know
Check your itinerary when you get it—you might see a POET appointment scheduled for the week after Check-In. Not everyone has to take it, but if your role involves a lot of physical work, you’ll need to complete and pass Disney’s POET before you can start.
- Not everybody has to take the POET. It depends on your assigned role.
- POET stands for Post Offer Employment Test. In other words, you got the job offer (and accepted it) and now Disney needs you to take a test.
Who Takes the POET?
The POET is typically required for roles like custodial, culinary and some kitchen positions, housekeeping, costuming, and similar assignments. Basically, if your job involves a good amount of lifting, pushing, pulling, and bending, you’ll probably need to take it.
What Happens During the Test
First, they’ll check your blood pressure, pulse, and balance. Then you’ll do a series of physical tasks. Don’t stress—everything will be demonstrated step-by-step before you’re asked to do it yourself.
Here are some EXAMPLES of what the physical portion might include. Keep in mind: this list is NOT all-inclusive and is SUBJECT TO CHANGE (you won’t necessarily do every single task):
- Walk on a treadmill for a period of time
- Use a dustpan and brush to sweep an area for several minutes
- Move a container by pushing it one direction, then pulling it back to where you started
- Pick up a weighted bag from inside a trash bin, then place it back in
- Transport a small weighted box up a short staircase
- Kneel down on one knee and use a brush to reach along a low wall line
- Pick up weighted boxes (weights vary from 5-50 lbs) and move them across the room
- Take weighted boxes (ranging between 5-50 lbs) and position them onto shelving at varying heights
Getting There
Advent Health runs the POET at a location off-site from Flamingo Crossings. Disney provides bus transportation to and from your appointment, but you can drive yourself if you’d rather.
Heads Up About Medical Accommodations
*As of February 2024, if you’ve filed for a medical accommodation, you might need a signed letter from your doctor saying you’re cleared to take the POET. This needs to be from the same doctor who signed your accommodation paperwork.
Without this letter, your POET could get delayed, which means your onboarding gets delayed too. If you have an accommodation request and a POET scheduled, reach out ahead of time to see if you need this letter so you can get it sorted before your appointment.
