Flamingo Crossings Village will place you in an apartment based on your gender unless you opt-in to Mixed Gender Housing when completing Housing Registration (formerly called DORMS Registration). Again, gender based apartment placement is the default.
Disney provides all info you need to know about Mixed Gender Housing (link below) but here are the key points that Navigator want you to know:
- Selecting Mixed Gender Housing is not a guarantee of being placed in a 4×2 or 4×4 apartment.
- “Mixed Gender” is not limited to apartment placement. In a 2×2 it could be room placement as well. So, if you opt-in, you could be in a 2×2 with mixed genders.
- Mixed Gender housing is not specifically for LGBTQIA+ participants. It is for anyone who is not concerned with the gender of the person they share an apartment or room with.
IMPORTANT
Even though apartment/room placement is based on gender by default, there are rules and housing policies that require roommates to get permission from all other roommates before having a guest (of any gender) spend the night, as long as that guest is a Disney Program Participant.* This means you could be a female in a 2×2 apartment with another female who has a male spending the night in your shared space — and using your bathroom, shower, etc. If this is a major concern, you might want to consider not living at Flamingo.
*Non-program participants are required to leave by 1 AM, so they are not allowed to spend the night. (In reality, non-program guests frequently spend the night, as Flamingo currently does not keep track of whether or when visitors leave the complex.)
