Flamingo Housing Accomodations
Let’s start with some important facts:
- Flamingo is not required by law to guarantee a housing accommodation to everyone who asks for one.
- Flamingo will not make an accommodation for allergies like peanuts or gluten. They can’t accommodate something they have no control over. In other words, they don’t check everyone coming in to the complex to see if they’re smuggling peanut M&M’s.
- If you want or need a PET FREE apartment you have to indicate that during registration. The default is that you can be put in an apartment or bedroom with a dog, cat, snake, hamster, etc.
- Requesting a housing accommodation is not a guarantee of a 4×2 or 4×4 apartment.
- Workplace Accommodations and Housing Accommodations are two very different things. DIsney handles workplace accommodations and Flamingo (American Campus Communities) handles housing. They each have a process that you have to follow.
REALITY CHECK:
Lots of people want a private bedroom, and the reality is that many will use an accommodation request to justify why they “NEED” one. Navigator talked to many CPs who used an Accommodation Request to try to get a private room, and many thought they were 100% justified but didn’t really have answers when asked. Like, “I have diabetes, so I need a private room.” When asked “What is something that you would have to be doing to manage your diabetes that you could only do in a private bedroom that you couldn’t do in a bathroom or other private area?” they couldn’t answer. Or, if the answer is “giving myself a shot of insulin,” we get it — but you can give yourself a shot just about anywhere. You basically WANT a private room. You don’t NEED a private room.
IF YOU 100% NEED A HOUSING ACCOMMODATION, YOU MIGHT NEED TO LOOK ELSEWHERE:
- Life-threatening allergies are serious and that’s one reason why Flamningo won’t do anything for you. If the presence of something like peanuts is your concern, and you want to do a Disney Progra,m, you’ll need to find another place to live.

WHAT IS THE PROCESS?
Get ready for some confusion. (PLEASE: If you have current info on the process to share please email navigator and let us know.)
During DORMS registration, you might see instruction that tell you if you need an accomodation to check the box. That seems to be the process but many have reported that they were never contacted about the specifics of the needed accommodation. When contacting DCP about it they were told they needed to email Flamingo. On the DCP Site it does tell you that if you didn’t indicate the need for an accommodation during registration or discovered you needed one after the fact, you need to email Flamingo. Then on the Flamingo website, rather than telling you to email them, they have an online form to fill out and submit.
