Can I ask to change my role if I don't like it?
No. When you signed up for the Disney College Program, you agreed that Disney could place you in any role or any location. Once assigned, your options are very limited.
There are a few guardrails — Disney won't assign anyone to a Safety Critical role like Lifeguard without their prior agreement, and you can share relevant information during your interview to make a case about certain roles. But those are exceptions to the rule, not a general appeal process.
The limited situations where a role change can happen
If there's a staffing need somewhere else, Disney may reassign you. This decision is entirely theirs — not yours to request.
If it becomes clear during training that you're not able to perform the role — or if you don't pass the final assessment — you may be reassigned to another role.
A word of caution: Don't think you can just "fail on purpose" to get moved. Trainers are experienced — if they suspect you're deliberately underperforming, they may recommend that the program isn't the right fit for you. That means being sent home, not reassigned.
If a physical limitation prevents you from performing the role's required tasks, a medical accommodation can result in being "recast" to a different role.
Real example from Navigator: A CP was assigned Custodial — healthy, fit, and motivated going in. Everything went fine in training until a very practical problem emerged. She was too short to lift trash bags out of the bins. Because the role requires that task, she was recast. There was no way to predict or request this before arriving — it only became clear on the job.
If you're thinking about posting to social media asking how to change your role because you don't like it — save yourself the time. The answer you'll get is almost certainly: you can't. Your best path forward is to commit to the role you're given, bring your best, and make the most of the experience.
