Costumes

What you need to know about Disney Costumes.

First, despite the picture we chose, don’t worry, you’ll look a lot better than this guy.

Navigator wants to provide you with some of the basics so you don’t have to stress.

  • For info on attire or rules, other than costumes, refer to the Disney Look Book: Click Here.

Remember, It’s a COSTUME.  Not a uniform.  CPs are Cast Members in a show – not employees in a theme park.  Disney provides just about everything. Like, you bring socks and underwear and they provide the rest.  In fact, if they didn’t provide it, you probably can’t wear it on stage.

Costume & Costuming FAQ

1. What about shoes?

Shoes are a big topic and get a lot of attention, so we’ve dedicated a separate section below to cover shoes in detail.

2. When will I get my costume?

Typically within the first few days of training, you’ll meet up with your Trainer and fellow Trainees at Cast Services (Costuming). Your Trainer will guide you through everything you need.

Tip: By this point, you’ll know exactly where Costuming is—no need to stress about directions.

3. Do I only get one costume?

No. You’ll usually be able to check out multiple pieces of each item—often around five pairs of pants and five tops. Accessories such as belts, hats, scarves, or similar items are typically issued one at a time.

4. What about raincoats, jackets, winter hats, or gloves?

Disney Costuming provides all required outerwear.

Important: If you wear it on stage while working, it must come from Costuming. Providing or wearing your own items is not allowed.

5. What should I do if my costume gets dirty?

You have two options: wash it yourself or return it to Costuming and exchange it for clean pieces.  Navigator Tip: Once you find costume pieces that fit well, keep them and wash them yourself. When you go back later, your size may not be available.

6. What if something rips, tears, or a button falls off—am I going to get fired?

No. This happens all the time. Bring the damaged item to Costuming so it can be tagged and replaced.   Reality check: Costuming handles repairs every day. You’re not the first, and you won’t be the last.

7. How does Costuming know what I have checked out?

Every costume piece has an RFID tag. When you leave Costuming, you scan your Blue ID and walk through a scanner. When returning items, you place them in the return chute one at a time and see each item register under your name. You can check your Costuming record at any time to see what you currently have checked out.

8. What if I lose a costume piece?

Go directly to Costuming, explain what happened, and ask what steps to take.   Good to know: Many “lost” items are found by other Cast Members and returned through the Costuming chute.  So, return the favor.

Warning: Losing a small item like a hat is one thing. Losing an entire Galaxy’s Edge or specialty costume and claiming you don’t know what happened to it is a very different situation. But you still just need to go to costuming and tell them. Don’t wait until they are emailing you about it.

9. What if I’m an unusual or hard-to-fit size?

Talk with Costuming. Cast Members come in every shape and size, and there’s a process to accommodate everyone.  Most times it’s just alterations. If that doesn’t work, they’ll make it brand new. Be patient—it may take some time, but they’ll get you set up properly.

10. Can I check out costumes for locations where I don’t work?

No.

11. Can I wear my costume outside of work?

You’re generally not supposed to, but brief stops (like Target or Publix) while commuting are usually fine as long as your name tag and Blue ID are not visible.   Big no-no: Do not wear your costume for fun—around Flamingo, to parties, or when going out socially.

12.  I heard that if you don’t return all your costume pieces at the end of your program, you are automatically placed on the NOT ELIGIBLE FOR REHIRE list.

100% correct.

13. What happens if I get home and find that I still have something from Costuming?

You email them. They send you a label and you ship it back. It’s easy. ([email protected])
