Registering for Housing - or opting out.
First, let’s get one thing clear. DORMS is not where you live. D.O.R.M.S is an acronym and an App. It’s an AcroApp. It stands for Disney Onsite Resident Management System. Basically, everything that happens at Flamingo Crossings Village can be found on DORMS.
Registering in DORMS - About 8 weeks before your arrival date.
About eight weeks before your arrival date, you’ll get an email asking you to complete DORMS Registration.
TIP: CHECK YOUR EMAIL EVERY DAY.
Seriously. If you miss this email or blow past the deadline, you’re going to have problems. DORMS Registration is required for everyone—even if you’re planning to live somewhere other than Flamingo.
DEADLINE ALERT – The email you get to tell you it’s time for DORMS/Housing Registration will have a deadline in it. Don’t miss it.
What Happens During DORMS Registration:
This is where you’ll make some important decisions about your housing situation:
1. Opt-Out of Flamingo Housing (if you’re living elsewhere) If you’ve found your own place or you’re living with family, this is where you let Disney know you won’t be living at Flamingo.
IF YOU ARE NOT OPTING-OUT OF HOUSING YOU WILL:
2. Rank Your Apartment Preference If you are living at Flamingo, you’ll rank your preference for apartment type:
- 2×2: Two shared bedrooms, each with its own bathroom (this is the most common type)
- 4×2: Four bedrooms, two bathrooms shared among all roommates
- 4×4: Four bedrooms, four bathrooms (each bedroom has its own bathroom)
Keep in mind: preferences are not guaranteed. Most apartments are 2×2, so even if you rank 4×4 as your top choice, there’s a good chance you won’t get it.
3. Request a Housing Accommodation If you need an accommodation—like a pet-free apartment because of allergies or personal preference—this is where you start that process. More on accommodations below.
4. Indicate Whether You’re Bringing a Car Let them know if you’ll have a vehicle so they can plan parking assignments.
Roommate Linking: It’s Gone
Yes, this used to be a thing. In the past, you could request to be placed in the same apartment as a specific person. That option no longer exists, and it doesn’t look like it’s coming back anytime soon. You cannot request a specific roommate.
Mixed Gender Housing
You have the option to select Mixed Gender Housing during registration. If you opt in, it means you could be placed in an apartment—or even share a bedroom in a 2×2—with someone of a different gender or gender orientation.
Make sure you’re genuinely comfortable with this before selecting it. Mixed Gender Housing is not limited to LGBTQ or trans participants. Anyone can select it. That means if you’re a gay female, you could end up sharing a room with a straight male. If you’re a straight male, you could end up sharing a room with a lesbian female. That’s how it works.
Mixed Gender Housing doesn’t happen randomly. You have to opt in. If you don’t select it, housing assignments are based on gender.
A Common Question: “If I’m female, is it possible I could be assigned to share a room with someone who was assigned male at birth but identifies as female?”
Navigator has researched this, and honestly, both Disney and Flamingo are pretty quiet about it. There’s nothing in any official documentation that clearly states whether apartment assignments are based on gender identity or sex assigned at birth.
If this is something you really need to know before making your housing decision, Navigator recommends submitting a Support Request directly to DCP Support and asking the question.
For more info on Mixed Gender Housing, check out Disney’s page HERE.
Housing Accommodations
If you need a housing accommodation DORMS Registration is where you start the process.
Here’s the frustrating part: the instructions aren’t totally clear. Some info says you do it during DORMS Registration. Other info says you need to go to the Flamingo website and fill out a separate form. Welcome to another example of Disney and Flamingo not being on the same page.
Navigator’s advice? Start the process in DORMS Registration and follow up with Flamingo directly if you don’t get confirmation. Don’t assume it’s handled just because you filled out one form.
Remember – If you need a PET FREE apartment, that is considered a Housing Accommodation. If you don’t want to live with Cats and Dogs and anything else, you need to follow the process.
